In a world of over-planning and endless itineraries, Gen Z is proudly marching to the beat of their own spontaneous drum. According to a new report by Agoda, one in four Gen Z travelers are booking hotels on the fly, ditching the detailed spreadsheets in favor of “book now, figure it out later.”
Last-minute bookings—often less than a week before travel—are becoming the new normal for this experience-hungry generation. But don’t mistake spontaneity for disorganization. Gen Z knows exactly where to look when wanderlust hits: 28% scroll through Instagram for travel inspiration, while others dive into Google and travel blogs.
They’re tech-native and confidence-rich, relying on real-time recommendations and visual storytelling to shape their travel dreams—sometimes just days before takeoff. And while they might fly solo occasionally, most prefer travel as a shared adventure.
About 41% of Gen Z travelers like to journey with their significant other, while 23% opt for the thrill of group getaways with friends. For them, it’s not just about where they go—it’s who they’re with when they get there.
This generation is redefining the rhythm of travel, proving that spontaneous doesn’t mean reckless. With the right tools in their pocket (and probably a power bank too), they’re making travel decisions on their terms—fast, flexible, and full of surprises.
