Cologne introduces “VisitKöln,” a digital guest directory

“VisitKöln” digital platform to elevate tourist engagement.

Cologne Launches “VisitKöln” Digital Guest Directory to Enhance Smart Tourism and Visitor Experience

Cologne is taking a major step toward smart tourism leadership with the launch of its new VisitKöln digital guest directory, an interactive web app developed by the Cologne Tourist Board in collaboration with Guestnet. The platform aims to enhance visitor engagement and streamline hotel communication by providing real-time access to city information, events, and bookable activities—all accessible via smartphone or tablet through QR codes displayed in participating hotels.

Designed as a one-stop information hub, VisitKöln enables travelers to explore attractions, museums, tours, and dining options while staying connected with their accommodations. The app includes features such as a dynamic events calendar, curated tips, and quick booking tools for guided tours and cultural programs. Available free of charge for hotels during its first year, the platform also allows properties to customize content in line with their branding, making it easy for businesses to engage guests digitally.

The initiative reflects the Cologne Tourist Board’s broader digital transformation vision, which positions the city as a key innovator in urban tourism technology. By integrating platforms like VisitKöln and the AI-powered tool “VisitKölnGPT,” Cologne seeks to redefine traveler interaction, promote sustainable tourism, and strengthen its presence as a connected destination. Several hotels—including Steigenberger, 25hours, Die Wohngemeinschaft, and A&O Hostels—have already implemented the system, offering guests seamless access to local experiences and real-time updates throughout their stay.

This move aligns Cologne with other European smart tourism pioneers, enabling visitors to explore the city more intuitively and sustainably. The digital guest directory not only supports independent travelers but also benefits local hoteliers through improved communication and streamlined service management, setting a new digital benchmark for Germany’s tourism industry.
