Croatia’s Minister of Tourism, Nikolina Brnjac, has been awarded the prestigious Kristofor Medal by Europe’s leading automobile clubs, ADAC and the German Automobile Club, in recognition of Croatia’s remarkable strides in sustainable tourism.
This accolade reflects Croatia’s recent reforms aimed at sustainable tourism development, establishing a legislative and strategic framework that emphasizes resource conservation and enhances the quality of life for tourists and locals alike.
Minister Brnjac expressed gratitude for the recognition, stating, “This award confirms that the direction of sustainable tourism is the right and only direction to which we should strive.”
Croatia’s Tourism Act, the first of its kind, introduced data-driven management of tourism development, ensuring a more sustainable and enjoyable experience for tourists while supporting local communities’ well-being.
The Kristofor Medal highlights Croatia’s collaboration with ADAC and its leadership in sustainable tourism practices. Croatia has been acknowledged by the World Tourism Organization and the European Commission as a model of good practice in tourism development.
Croatia’s innovative approach to tourism has earned global recognition, with the country’s inclusion in the E.U.’s strategic document “Transition Path for Tourism” showcasing it as an exemplary model within its Strategy for the Development of Sustainable Tourism until 2030.
Minister Brnjac expressed pride in Croatia’s recognition as a leader in sustainable tourism, noting that the country’s Tourism Act serves as a guideline for tourism development in other European and global destinations.
