Hilton has announced a ground-breaking partnership expansion with Tesla, setting the stage for a massive EV charging network rollout. Beginning in early 2024, Hilton plans to install up to 20,000 Tesla Universal Wall Connectors at 2,000 of its hotels across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. This ambitious initiative will establish Hilton as the leading hospitality company in the EV charging space, offering at least six chargers at each participating hotel.
The move comes in response to the surging popularity of electric vehicles, as travelers increasingly seek convenient charging options during their journeys. Tesla’s recently launched Universal Wall Connector, designed to seamlessly charge any North American vehicle model, will play a pivotal role in this endeavor. The goal is to extend the accessibility of high-quality charging to all electric vehicles, not just Tesla’s own.
Matt Schuyler, Chief Brand Officer at Hilton, expressed the company’s commitment to meeting guests’ evolving needs. He stated, “Across Hilton’s family of award-winning brands, this network of EV chargers will offer our guests even more value with the convenience of much-needed overnight charging access in more locations.”
Hilton’s expansive network of hotels, strategically located along major roadways and in key urban destinations throughout North America, positions the company as a crucial player in providing widespread charging access for long-haul travelers.
Rebecca Tinucci, Senior Director of Charging Infrastructure at Tesla, emphasized the importance of low-cost, convenient AC charging where electric vehicles are parked for extended periods. She lauded Hilton’s leadership in this endeavor, highlighting the goal of enhancing the EV ownership experience and eliminating the need for unnecessary refueling stops during journeys.
The growing demand for EV charging options is evident in the increasing number of searches on Hilton.com for hotels with charging capabilities. In 2023, the EV charging search attribute on the website experienced rapid growth, moving from the fourth to the second-highest category in terms of converting searches into stays. Hilton’s partnership with Tesla aims to meet this growing demand and provide a seamless charging experience for travelers across North America.
