Hotel Pipeline Activity Has Grown in Europe and the Asia Pacific: STR

According to STR statistics from September 2021, two of the four global regions, Europe and the Asia Pacific, had a rise in hotel pipeline activity at the end of the third quarter.

• Europe: 230,265 rooms under construction (+6.6%)

Final Planning: 171,988 rooms (+5.9%), 148,565 rooms are planned (-4.8%)

Total No. of Contracts: 550,818 (+3.1%)

Germany (46,494) and the U.K (35,196) lead Europe in total rooms in construction.

 

• Asia Pacific: 478,193 rooms are under construction (0.0%)

Final Planned Rooms: 178,195 rooms (+5.3%),

Planning: 288,227 rooms (+16.0%)

Total rooms under contracts: 944,615 (+5.4%)

China has the most construction rooms in the area (295,989), followed by Vietnam (29,178).

 

• Africa and the Middle East: 135,217 rooms are now under construction (-7.6%)

40,539 rooms were planned in all (-16.6%)

62,679 rooms are planned (-0.6%)

Total number of contracts: 238,435 (-7.8%)

Construction activity is led by Saudi Arabia (42,008) and the United Arab Emirates (34,935).

 

• Americas: 228,662 rooms are now under construction (-16.6%)

247,381 rooms were planned in all (-15.9%)

Planning: 301,333 rooms (+36.1%)

Total rooms under contracts: 777,376 (-1.6%)

The United States has the bulk of rooms under development in the area. Aside from the United States, Mexico (14,763) and Brazil (7,680) have the most rooms under development in the area.
