In April, Melbourne Airport witnessed a continued growth in daily passenger traffic.
The average number of individuals arriving or departing from the airport per day rose to 90,350, surpassing the March figure of 87,469. Overall, the airport served a total of 2.7 million passengers in April, representing a 20% increase compared to the same month in 2022.
However, the number of domestic passengers processed in April, totaling 1.93 million, showed a slight decline compared to the previous year. This decrease is attributed to higher airfares, which have resulted in a cooling of traveler demand.
On a positive note, international capacity at Melbourne Airport continued to expand, exemplified by the reintroduction of Singapore Airlines’ regular service utilizing the Airbus A380.
“This is the flagship of Singapore Airlines’ fleet,” Melbourne Airport CEO Lorie Argus said. “Singapore Airlines was one of the few carriers that stuck with Melbourne through the pandemic.”
