Not everyone has access to online passport renewal. However, many Americans will be permitted to do so provided they meet the standards outlined below by the US Department of State:
- You are over the age of 25, and your previous passport was valid for ten years.
- Your most recent passport was issued during the last 15 years, but more than 9 years before the date you want to submit your application.
- You are not changing your gender, name, birth date, or location.
- You will not be leaving the country for at least six weeks after submitting your application.
- You’re merely applying for a basic passport as a tourist.
- You live in the United States (territories count as well).
- You have your passport in your possession, it is in good condition and undamaged, and it has not been lost or stolen.
- You can pay for your passport using your bank’s ACH or a credit or debit card.
- You can upload a JPG file of your passport photo.
- You are aware that as soon as you submit your application, your present passport will become invalid and you will be unable to travel outside of the nation.
