Shannon Airport Passenger Numbers Soar 7% in H1 2025, Surpassing 1.04 Million Milestone

Shannon Airport has recorded a strong performance in the first half of 2025, welcoming more than 1.04 million passengers, marking a 7% increase compared to the same period last year. This growth builds on a successful 2024, when the airport handled over 2.1 million passengers—the highest annual total in 15 years—and reflects Shannon’s expanding role as a key international gateway for Ireland and the Wild Atlantic Way.

The airport’s network now includes 38 routes to 12 countries, attracting both leisure and business travelers. Recent developments include Ryanair’s announcement of a fourth based aircraft at Shannon, alongside three new routes to Lapland, Madeira, and Madrid, plus increased frequencies on six existing services. These additions are expected to further boost connectivity and passenger numbers in the second half of 2025.

Mary Considine, CEO of The Shannon Airport Group, emphasized the airport’s strategic importance and called for recognition in Ireland’s new National Aviation Policy. She highlighted ongoing investments in infrastructure, sustainability, and customer service excellence. To support growth, Shannon recently completed the addition of 1,000 new car parking spaces, part of a wider €30 million investment program that also includes the Shannon Airport Business Park.

Sustainability remains a priority, with construction underway on Ireland’s first solar photovoltaic farm on an airfield, projected to supply up to 20% of the airport’s electricity needs—a pioneering step in green aviation. Beyond aviation, the Shannon Airport Group significantly contributes to the economy, supporting over 20,000 jobs nationwide and generating nearly €4 billion annually through its business park, campus, and airport activities.
