Singapore has once again secured its position as the holder of the world’s most powerful passport, according to the latest rankings from the Henley Passport Index. Singaporean passport holders enjoy the privilege of visa-free access to 195 countries, solidifying the island nation’s status at the top of the list.
In this year’s rankings, Japan, which held the number one spot last year, now shares second place with several European nations: France, Germany, Italy, and Spain. Citizens of these countries can travel to 192 destinations without the need for a visa.
The Henley Passport Index Top 10 features only three Asian countries, with South Korea sharing third place alongside six European nations, all of which provide access to 191 destinations.
In addition to the Passport Index, the Henley Passport Power rankings assess the strength of passports in relation to a country’s economic power. In this context, Singapore ranks third with an Economic Mobility Score (EMS) of 92.39 percent, reflecting the correlation between passport strength and the global GDP accessible to its citizens.
Among Asian countries, Brunei is the only other nation to make it into the Henley Passport Power top ten, coming in at tenth place with an EMS of 87.82 percent and allowing visa-free travel to 166 destinations. Taiwan, South Korea, and Japan follow closely behind in the rankings, with EMS scores of 82.12 percent, 80.71 percent, and 78.53 percent, respectively.
This year’s rankings highlight the continued dominance of Singapore in global travel freedom, while also showcasing the economic implications of passport strength.
