Analysis of October reservations for major winter sun locations by global travel service firm Trip.com indicates that travel in many areas of the globe is becoming regularly busy and may signal the end of so-called peak season travel. Increasing demand for international travel, along with more flexible work schedules, indicates a developing trend toward year-round demand for many sites that were once more popular during the summer months or school vacations.
Compared to September, October saw a 20% spike in flight searches from Europe and the United States to prominent Asia-Pacific winter sun locations. In October, flight searches from Germany to the Maldives increased by 116% compared to the previous month. Other markets have followed suit, with searches for flights to the Maldives increasing by 57% in the United Kingdom, 47% in Italy, and 27% in the United States. Flight searches from Italy to the Philippines have climbed by 45%, while those from the United Kingdom and Germany have grown by nearly a third (29% and 28%, respectively).
October data also reveals a strong 27% growth in flight searches inside the Asia-Pacific region. In October, reservations from the United Kingdom to New Zealand increased by 71% compared to September. In October 2022, reservations for flights to certain Asian locations increased by 19% compared to the previous month, according to statistics from Trip.com. From Europe and the United States, flight reservations to the Philippines are up by an average of 14%, while bookings from Germany to the Maldives are up by 63%.
Off-season travelers may take advantage of the worldwide specials celebrating Trip.com’s fifth anniversary. This includes ticket specials for two for the price of one in Hong Kong, discounts of up to 50 percent in Japan, and daily hotel and airline deals in Thailand. In addition, there is a fortunate villa lottery in Vietnam, crazy hour flash sales in Singapore, airline giveaways in Australia and New Zealand, and the opportunity for European customers to get a substantial discount on a Barcelona vacation.
Trip.com customers in France and Spain are also eligible to win a trip for two to Malaysia, including complimentary Emirates flights and a stay at the five-star Shangri-la hotel in Penang.
