Fforest offers a variety of accommodations, including farmhouses, cabins, and glamping tents, in three locations: farm, seaside, and town. Albion Aberteifi, the group’s first hotel offering, has opened in a Grade II-listed old warehouse on the River Teifi shoreline in Cardigan.
The repair maintained original elements of the structure, such as pencil illustrations of ships, autographs, and calculations for rope and sail material engraved into the walls on the third level. The name Albion Aberteifi comes from local folklore about the vessel Albion, which carried 180 people from Cardigan to Canada in 1819.
The initial phase of the launch includes 12 double beds in the building’s main warehouse, with an additional 11 rooms expected to open in the second Granary warehouse in spring 2023. The interiors are inspired by ship cabins and are coated with wood paneling, with the majority of the furnishings made from salvaged wood.
All rooms are specially created and use 100% pure new wool blankets, pillows, and bedhead coverings manufactured merely upstream from the Albion at a prior mill, ‘Melin Teifi.’ The mill was previously powered by the same streams that flowed into the Teifi and through the Albion before reaching the sea.
The textile themes are largely based on traditional designs, but are unique to fforest, with designs refined over 15 years with local craft legends. The bedding is licensed British wool Duvets obtained from Devon – Devon Duvets – the first bedding enterprise in the UK to get British Wool accreditation. Wool blankets, textiles, socks, knitwear, and enamel dishes are all available for purchase in the rooms.
The lounge area with a riverfront patio, a first-floor guest-only lounge and work space, the main restaurant Yr Odyn [The Kiln in English] opening in fall 2022, and an outdoor sauna and onsen launching in December this year are among the amenities at Albion Aberteifi.
