Japan has become a must-visit destination for many travelers in 2024, with its popularity soaring in recent years. To cater to this increasing interest, the country is set to introduce a new high-speed bullet train, or “shinkansen,” providing visitors with the opportunity to explore beyond Tokyo and discover the charms of Fukui Prefecture.
The new train service, scheduled to commence on Saturday, March 16, will transport passengers to Fukui Prefecture, situated approximately 185 miles west of Tokyo. The journey will take travelers through the city of Fukui, the town of Awara, and other off-the-beaten-path locations not commonly found in guidebooks.
Fukui Prefecture, known for its dinosaur fossils, Zen meditation practices, and rejuvenating hot springs, is expected to become more accessible to international tourists with the introduction of this new route. The region boasts attractions such as the Fukui Prefectural Dinosaur Museum in Katsuyama, where nearly 80% of Japan’s dinosaur fossils have been unearthed.
Travelers stopping at the Eiheijiguchi train station will have the opportunity to explore Zen Buddhist temples and monasteries dating back to the 1200s, offering a glimpse into Japan’s rich cultural heritage.
Upon reaching Tsuruga, the final stop on the train line, visitors can enjoy the scenic beauty of beachside pine groves and explore cultural sites like the Port of Humanity Museum.
The launch of this new bullet train route promises to unveil a lesser-known yet culturally rich part of Japan, providing travelers with a unique and unforgettable experience beyond the usual tourist hotspots.
