Emirates has announced the addition of a second daily flight on its Dubai-Melbourne route, which will be flown by its flagship A380. Beginning May 1st, the airline will provide fourteen weekly flights from Dubai to Melbourne. The Victorian government supports the extension of services in order to expedite the resumption of international flights to Melbourne and bring more visitors to the country.
The addition of a second daily A380 service will also provide customers with extra convenience, as they will be able to choose between morning and evening flights for best onward connections when they stop in Dubai. Prior to the pandemic, foreign flights attracted over 3.1 million tourists to Victoria each year, contributing $8.8 billion to the economy.
Emirates carried 22% of the 1.3 million passengers that came in Victoria from important European nations including as Germany, France, Italy, the Netherlands, and Switzerland in 2019, contributing $86 million to the Victorian economy.
