In a comprehensive release, Tripadvisor has revealed its highly anticipated Travelers’ Choice Awards for 2024, highlighting the most sought-after destinations in various categories. Asia takes center stage globally, while Dubai secures the prestigious title of the No. 1 Top Destination in the World for the third consecutive year.

With approximately 81% of Americans planning vacations in 2024, Tripadvisor’s Best of the Best Destinations encompass seven categories, reflecting the diverse preferences of travelers. These categories include Top Destinations, Trending Destinations, Culture Destinations, Food Destinations, Nature Destinations, and two new additions for Honeymoon Destinations and Sustainable Destinations.
Key Trends and Travel Plans for 2024
A glimpse into Tripadvisor’s data indicates that travel momentum, revived in the previous year, is set to continue in 2024. Almost half (45%) of respondents plan three or more trips, 46% anticipate at least one international journey, and an overwhelming 93% of Americans are prepared to maintain or increase their travel expenditures.
Sarah Firshein, Head of Editorial at Tripadvisor, emphasizes the enthusiasm for travel in 2024, stating, “With 94% of Americans planning to travel as much, if not more, than last year, enthusiasm is high, and this year’s list of Travelers’ Choice Best of the Best Destinations really reflects that excitement.”
Asia Leads the Trending Destinations for 2024
In the Trending Destinations category, Asia claims the spotlight by securing the top five positions globally and eight out of the top 10 destinations. Tokyo, Japan clinches the No. 1 spot, followed by Seoul, South Korea, and Halong Bay, Vietnam. Notably, Central and South America contribute to the top 10 with Bogota, Colombia, and Alajuela, Costa Rica.
Favorite Spots and Continuation of Trends
With 71% of Americans planning to revisit their favorite places, Dubai maintains its stronghold as the Top Destination in the World for the third consecutive year. In the U.S., New York City retains its No. 1 position for the second year running.
New Categories for 2024: Sustainable and Honeymoon Destinations
This year, Tripadvisor introduces two new subcategories: Sustainable Destinations and Honeymoon Destinations. Copenhagen, Denmark, tops the Sustainable Destinations list, showcasing a commitment to environmental responsibility. In the Honeymoon Destinations category, island retreats dominate, with Bali, Indonesia, securing the No. 1 spot.
Nature, Culture, and Culinary Exploration
Tripadvisor recognizes the growing interest in nature-focused trips, with the Nature Destinations list highlighting pristine locales worldwide. Kathmandu, Nepal, claims the No. 1 spot, offering diverse natural experiences.
For cultural sightseeing, Cuba emerges as the No. 1 Culture Destination globally. Additionally, the Food Destinations list reveals Hanoi, Vietnam, as the top choice for culinary enthusiasts, while New Orleans retains its title as the No. 1 Food Destination in the U.S. for the second consecutive year.
