The United Kingdom’s (UK) laws for international travel will be replaced with a new system in an effort to simplify entrance processes for foreign individuals from 4th oct.
Since travel is opened in England, the red, amber, green travel light system has been heavily criticised for being overly complex and undermining customer trust. As a result, the British government has taken efforts to simplify it by placing high-risk nations on a red list and imposing other countries on same entrance criteria.
Those travelling to England should complete certain conditions, travellers should receive all doses of vaccination recognised by the UK government and must finish this course before 14 days prior to arrival.
UK government recognises four mentioned vaccines (Astra Zeneca, Pfizer/BioNTech, Moderna, Johns/Janssen)
If you are vaccinated:
- Provide documented proof that you are fully vaccinated.
- After arrival in England, pay and book for covid test on second day of arrival.
- Complete passenger locator form within 48 hours prior to your arrival.
What rules have been replaced:
- No need of pre-departure test.
- Test again on Day 8 for your stay.
If not fully vaccinated:
- Take pre-departure covid test before 72 hours of travelling.
- Pay and book for covid test on Day 2 and Day 8 of your stay.
- Complete passenger locator form prior to travelling
- Quarantine for 10 days at home or in your accommodations
If you are going to England from a country on the ‘red list’, the same restrictions apply to you, whether you are completely, partly, or unvaccinated. If you have been in a red list country within last 10 days, you will be allowed to enter only if you are a British or Irish national, or you have residency rights in UK.
Rules for travellers coming from ‘red’ list countries:
- Take pre-departure covid test
- Book 2 post arrival covid test and quarantine hotel package
- Complete passenger locator form prior to travelling
The red list will be reviewed every three weeks, or “whenever disturbing evidence indicates that we may need to move quicker to safeguard public health”, according to UK government website.
