The GARD Center (Gilbert Agricultural and Rural Development Center) is glad to continue its cooperation with the Sandals Foundation by financing the “Climate Smart Agriculture For Youth- Hydroponic” Project. The Center is a grassroots non-profit, non-governmental organization that operates under the auspices of the Methodist Church throughout the Caribbean and the Americas (MCCA).
For the last 32 years, the Center has worked tirelessly with at-risk kids, men, and women in the community to involve them in various types of 21st-century sustainable agriculture.
The Climate Smart Agriculture for Youth – Hydroponic program’s principal goal is to increase climate-smart agriculture techniques among young people to achieve long-term food security.
- Raise awareness of current and future concerns associated with climate change and agriculture.
- During the COVID-19 period, make youth aware of the contributions they can make in the agriculture sector for a brighter future, particularly via the use of climate-smart agricultural methods.
- 20 kids will be trained in hydroponics systems.
- Increase participants’ ability to build a hydroponic unit and supply a beginning package that includes seeds, Rockwool, and a water pump.
