To accommodate the seasonal spike in travel demand, Emirates has announced intentions to commence daily direct flights between Dubai and Colombo from 1 December 2022. The new service, flying as EK648/EK649, will increase the number of daily flights between the two cities to three, with two direct flights and one through Male, the capital of the Maldives. The second daily flight operated by Emirates will run straight between Dubai and Colombo, except from 16 to 30 December, when the service will make a stop in Male.
From 1 to 15 December and from 31 December to 26 March, EK648 will leave Dubai at 16:10 and arrive at 21:55 local time in Colombo. Flight EK648 will be routed through Male from the 16th to the 30th of December, departing Dubai at 10.30 and arriving in Male at 14.45. The flight will subsequently leave Male at 17:15 and arrive in Colombo at 19:15. Flight EK649 is scheduled to leave Colombo at 02:55hrs and arrive in Dubai at 05:05hrs between 1 December and 26 March.
On flights to Colombo, Emirates runs its new Boeing 777-300ER aircraft with a three-class layout, providing private suites in First Class, lie-flat seats in Business Class, and roomy seats in Economy Class. Emirates began operations in Sri Lanka in 1986 and recently marked 36 years of service with Combo. The airline signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau in 2022, confirming its commitment to Sri Lanka and detailing actions that would assist revitalize the country’s commerce and tourism industries.
