Hilton marked a historic milestone in the last quarter of 2023, opening 132 hotels with approximately 24,000 rooms, the largest number of new rooms opened in any quarter in the company’s history. This positive trend is expected to continue into 2024, reflecting the hotel giant’s strong performance.
In total, Hilton welcomed 395 hotel openings worldwide in 2023, adding around 63,000 rooms and achieving a net unit growth of 4.9 percent. The year also saw the signing of nearly 1,000 upcoming hotels, a 45 percent increase from the previous year and surpassing pre-pandemic levels. Hilton’s upcoming hotels and signings now total nearly 3,300 hotels, representing over 462,000 rooms globally.
Despite the pandemic’s initial impact on hotel development, Hilton has demonstrated a rebound, with a 15 percent year-over-year increase in construction starts in 2023, signaling a strong recovery in the industry.
Adding to its portfolio, Hilton introduced two new brands in 2023: Spark by Hilton and LivSmart Studios by Hilton. Spark by Hilton, announced in January 2023, enhances the premium economy segment, while LivSmart Studios, announced under a working title of H3, offers apartment-style accommodations for longer stays, enriching Hilton’s longer stay portfolios.
As of the end of 2023, Hilton operates over 7,500 properties in 126 countries and territories worldwide, serving over 213 million travelers. The Hilton Honors loyalty program boasts a record membership of 180 million members.
Chris Nassetta, President and CEO of Hilton, commented on the company’s performance, stating, “Our team is delivering robust results, supported by the power of our brands, our award-winning culture, and strong commercial engines. Premium products and exceptional levels of service are driving strong customer demand for our hotels around the world, while better returns are supporting strong owner interest.”
