On November 15, 2022, Hilton announced the signing of the first Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts property in Costa Rica. The Waldorf Astoria Guanacaste is now under development and is anticipated to open in 2025. Waldorf Astoria Guanacaste will provide 190 guest rooms and 25 Waldorf Astoria branded villas in the tropical paradise of Guanacaste, which is renowned for its stunning landscape, lush woods, and gorgeous beaches. The hotel will emphasize sustainable luxury by emphasizing surroundings-integrated architecture, local flora and wildlife, and amenities that link visitors to the natural environment. On the resort premises, only electric cars will be employed.
“Hilton has always been committed to serving any guest, for any travel need, anywhere in the world, and we’re thrilled to expand our presence with the first Waldorf Astoria in Costa Rica,” said Chris Nassetta, president, and CEO, of Hilton. “Costa Rica is a fast-growing and highly sought-after destination that is an ideal place to introduce the world-class personal service of our Waldorf Astoria brand. We look forward to sharing our signature hospitality and creating unforgettable stays for our guests in this serene and beautiful location.”
The hotel is a milestone signing for Hilton’s Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts brand, as it welcomes a new and highly sought-after destination to its portfolio of more than 30 exclusive properties around the world and builds upon the luxury brand’s presence of iconic resorts in the Caribbean and Latin America, including the recently opened Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal and Waldorf Astoria Cancun.
The destination-inspired barefoot luxury resort will also provide easy access to Guanacaste’s international airport and two adjacent beach towns with bustling restaurants, bars, and stores, embodying the “Pura Vida” philosophy of Costa Rica. Waldorf Astoria Guanacaste will have 190 elegant guest rooms and suites, including a Presidential Suite complex, in addition to 25 private houses managed by Hilton with access to all resort facilities.
“Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts offers impeccable service in some of the most sought-after destinations across the globe and together with our partners, we look forward to welcoming guests to experience one of the most unique destinations in Central America firsthand,” said Steve Case, chairman, and CEO, Revolution. “With more than 200 miles of scenic coastline and some of the region’s most extraordinary ecosystems, we are delighted to introduce guests to this world-class sustainable luxury destination and help connect them to the natural beauty and local culture that the Cacique Costa Rica community has to offer.”
The Waldorf Astoria Guanacaste will have a comprehensive wellness center with a modern gym, movement studio, outdoor yoga, and lap and thermal pools. The opulent spa, inspired by cenotes, will have eight treatment rooms, three outdoor treatment rooms resembling tree houses, and a selection of Waldorf Astoria Spa specialty therapies. The resort offers a variety of family-friendly activities, such as a children’s center and teen club, for its younger guests. The premium resort will include roughly 10,000 square feet of meeting and event space, including indoor and outdoor space, an event lawn, and a wedding ceremony pavilion, for groups and occasions.
In the Caribbean and Latin America, Hilton has a portfolio of 200 properties and a pipeline of hotels under construction. The Waldorf Astoria Guanacaste will be managed by Hilton and owned by Revolution, Cacique Investors LLC, and the Costa Rican developer, Garnier & Garnier. GFG Securities LLC raised loan and equity funding.
