With the arrival of the 1,600,000th visitor in 2022, Maldives has met its aim for tourist arrivals.
In his presentation at the opening of Parliament for the year on February 3, 2022, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih declared the administration’s goal to attract over 1.6 million visitors this year. On Monday, December 19th, Maldives received its 1,600,000th visitor of the year.
Vice President Faisal Naseem formally greeted the 1,6 millionth tourist to the Maldives at a ceremony conducted at Velana International Airport (VIA).
The event was organized by the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) in collaboration with the Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), the Ministry of Tourism, Maldives Immigration, and Maldives Customs Service.
With the joint efforts of key government agencies, the private sector, and industry players, the Maldives achieved their goal.
Thoyyib Mohamed, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of MMPRC noted during the ceremony that the golden jubilee year of tourism holds a record for tourism-related accomplishments, attributing this to the steadfast and consistent efforts of everyone engaged in the business.
He said that the nation is enjoying another milestone after its recent WTA victories.
Thoyyib said that it is no minor effort for the Maldives to have been named the World’s Leading Destination for three consecutive years. He went on to say that the tourist industry’s tenacity amid the most difficult periods the globe has witnessed in recent history has contributed to these accomplishments.
