During a press conference held at ITB Berlin, Qatar Airways gained considerable attention when His Excellency Mr. Akbar Al Baker, the Group Chief Executive, revealed new destinations, announced the resumption of flights, and increased flight frequency.
The seven new destinations set to launch in 2023 are Chittagong, Juba, Kinshasa, Lyon, Medan, Toulouse, and Trabzon. The airlines will restart its flights to eleven destinations, they being: Beijing, Birmingham, Buenos Aires, Casablanca, Davao, Marrakesh, Nice, Osaka, Phnom Penh, Ras Al-Khaimah, and Tokyo Haneda.
There have also been frequency increases scheduled at 35 destinations.
Mr Al Baker said: “Qatar Airways is dedicated to enriching the global community which it serves. As the World’s Best Airline, we are excited to offer more ways of bringing the world together, increasing connectivity and bridging gaps within the travel industry. As we expand our fleet, network, partnerships, and international presence, we look forward to working together to deliver sustainable growth and a compelling future for the industry.
“We continue to look forward to our bright future here in Qatar, with multiple projects lined up for 2023 and beyond, such as the Formula 1 partnership and much more. Qatar will continue to be a global connectivity hub and an ideal destination for tourists long after the great success of the historic FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™.”
In December 2021, Qatar Airways brought back some of its A380s into service due to capacity issues with its A350 fleet. However, the CEO stated that he did not envision a long-term future for the A380 aircraft. Currently, Qatar Airways has 10 A380 planes, out of which seven are operational.
The summer 2023 schedule will see an increase of more than 655 weekly flights as compared to the same period last year. Mr. Al Baker mentioned that Qatar Airways had encountered minimal issues with regards to recruitment and staffing, and any impediments to expansion were not related to these factors.
Qatar Airways’ expansion plans for 2023 showcase the company’s commitment to providing exceptional service that connects different cultures. Attendees at ITB Berlin were given a glimpse into the future of travel through Qatar Airways, which is setting the benchmark through its growth and technological advancements.
