Three tourists were stabbed on Monday morning, following a foot pursuit through the streets of San Juan, Puerto Rico on February 06, 2023.
Wallace Alonso Florence , 37, Carlos Sánchez Brown, 39, and Jackson Brandom Tremayne, 38, all tourists from the United States, were taking photos with a cellphone in the La Perla neighborhood when they were told to stop, according to the San Juan Municipal Police and NotiCentro Digital.
According to NotiCentro, the three tourists were taking photos of a food cart in Old San Juan at around 4:11 a.m. when they were approached by an individual with long, white hair who then attacked and pursued them. The tourists ultimately suffered from stab wounds.
As reported by CBS News, one of the tourists, who was possibly taking photos and filming video, is from South Carolina. Among the victims, Tremayne from Georgia sustained six stab wounds, including his arms, chest, abdomen, and back, and is one of the two individuals who are still being hospitalized. Florence and Sánchez Brown were both hit in the head.
As of late Monday, the suspect remains at large.
Monday’s stabbings were not an isolated incident of violence against tourists who were filming in La Perla. In 2021, a 24-year-old individual named Tariq Quadir Loat from Wilmington, Delaware, was confronted by a group of people for taking pictures, and was subsequently found dead and burned.
