Wyndham Hotels & Resorts has announced plans to revolutionize its operations by adopting the Opera Cloud property management system in an additional 2,000 of its hotels. This move is part of the company’s long-term strategy to transition all of its properties to the cloud.
The Opera Cloud system, developed by Oracle Hospitality, is already in use at over 800 Wyndham properties, primarily upscale hotels. The decision to expand its implementation to 2,000 more hotels, mainly in the mid-tier segment featuring brands like Ramada, La Quinta, and Wingate, is expected to be completed by the end of 2024.
Scott Strickland, the Chief Information Officer for Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, stated that the integration of the cloud-based technology is progressing at a rate of approximately 20 hotels per week.
Financial details regarding the deal were not disclosed by the involved parties.
Historically, Wyndham hotels operated using multiple systems, including the on-premises version of Opera, as well as Sihot and Protel. However, the company has now decided to streamline its operations by adopting two preferred cloud-based systems: Sabre’s SynXis Property Hub for smaller hotels with simpler requirements, and Oracle’s Opera Cloud for larger properties with additional amenities such as restaurants and meeting facilities.
Strickland emphasized that reducing the number of systems in use will enable Wyndham to deliver innovations and technical support more efficiently.
The company aims to have all its hotels operating in the cloud and utilizing either Sabre’s or Oracle’s property management system (PMS) offerings by the end of the following year, according to Strickland.
The move to cloud-based property management systems aligns with the ongoing industry trend of modernization and improved efficiency within the hotel sector.
Alex Alt, Senior Vice President and General Manager for Oracle Hospitality, previously highlighted the company’s commitment to assisting customers in transitioning from older systems to the modern Opera Cloud system. As of March, nearly 5,000 hotels were already using Opera Cloud, with an additional 10,000 hotels in the pipeline. Alt anticipates that over the next three years, more than 40,000 hotels will adopt the system.
