Amadeus, a prominent player in travel technology, has finalized the acquisition of Vision-Box, a specialist in biometric technology, for €320 million.
This strategic move broadens Amadeus’s capabilities by integrating border control and other biometric access solutions into its portfolio, enabling seamless services ranging from traveler booking to border control and boarding.
Decius Valmorbida, President of Travel at Amadeus, emphasized the significance of this acquisition, stating, “Biometrics is a strategic and fast-growing industry, and Vision-Box’s capabilities will allow us to accelerate our growth in this area.”
With a workforce of 470 employees expected to transition to Amadeus, the acquisition is anticipated to be finalized in the first half of 2024. Vision-Box is projected to generate €70 million in revenue in 2023, with nearly €20 million in EBITDA.
Valmorbida highlighted the immediate benefits of this collaboration for customers and travelers alike, stressing the enhanced passenger journey from booking to boarding facilitated by the combined best-in-class solutions of both companies.
Vision-Box, known for its solutions catering to airlines, airports, cruise lines, and seaports, operates in over 100 countries and commands a significant share, accounting for 30% of the global market in border control.
Miguel Leitmann, founder and CEO of Vision-Box, expressed his excitement about the growth prospects of the company under Amadeus’s umbrella. Leitmann emphasized the potential to revolutionize the travel experience by integrating disparate players and systems into a unified, digitally-integrated ecosystem.
Vision-Box has previously collaborated with leading airlines like Lufthansa and AirAsia, as well as Amadeus, to introduce innovative solutions such as biometric boarding and automated bag drop services, demonstrating its commitment to advancing travel technology.
