Google is reportedly constructing a new search engine that utilizes its latest A.I. technology, while simultaneously integrating new A.I.-based functionalities into its existing search engine through the Magi project.
Although there is no specific release date, the development of the new Google search engine is reportedly in its preliminary stages, reflecting Google’s aspirations to revamp the search experience.
“The new search engine would offer users a far more personalized experience than the company’s current service, attempting to anticipate users’ needs,” the New York Times reported.
As per the report, Google has assigned a team comprising designers, engineers, and executives to oversee the construction of the search engine, which could incorporate advanced A.I. technology that might eventually become commonplace in phones and homes worldwide.
The upcoming search engine is designed to employ machine learning to determine what users are seeking based on their searches. Furthermore, it will provide a list of preselected choices for various topics, including purchases, research data, and other information. It is expected to be more interactive, similar to talking to a human. In earlier announcements, Google hinted at significant modifications to Google Search.
In 2009, Google attempted to personalize search results, stating that all search results would be customized for every user. However, a decade later, Google acknowledged that personalization didn’t benefit searchers much. The search engine’s personalization was restricted and scaled back, aside from the immediate prior query and some localization based on the user’s location. Although it could have been a privacy strategy, the current market situation is such that Google is now facing the possibility of losing market share to competitors such as Microsoft Bing.
About Project Magi:
Reportedly, while Google is developing a new search engine, another team of over 160 Google employees is working on adding more features to the current Google Search. This project is internally referred to as Magi and could be launched as soon as next month for a select group of users.
With Magi, users would be able to carry out transactions like purchasing shoes or booking flights through Google Search, all the while being exposed to the platform’s revenue-generating ads.
