An incident of gunfire near a beach in Acapulco, previously known for its luxurious status as a resort city, resulted in the death of two individuals, who appeared to be Mexican tourists. Additionally, a woman was injured in the incident. The incident took place around 8th April 2023.
According to officials from the Guerrero state, the two men were present at a barbershop in the neighborhood of Puerto Marquez at the time of the shooting.
According to an eyewitness, the individuals killed in the shooting had arrived the previous day to spend their Easter holiday. The witness claimed that the victims were traveling on two all-terrain vehicles when they were attacked by unknown assailants riding a motorcycle. The bodies of the victims were discovered on the ATVs.
It is currently unknown how the woman who sustained injuries is faring, as she was transported to a hospital before the police arrived at the scene.
Drug-related violence has been a persistent problem in Acapulco since 2006. However, in the first few months of 2023, the situation has taken a turn for the worse. In January, authorities in southern Mexico discovered the remains of five individuals in a village situated to the north of the popular Pacific coast resort of Acapulco.
