Sabre Unveils “Travel Positive” Strategy to Drive Sustainability in the Travel Industry

In a significant step towards enhancing sustainability within the travel sector, Sabre Corporation has launched its new “Travel Positive” strategy as part of its 2024 Sustainability Report.

This initiative aims to create a more sustainable future for the travel industry by focusing on three key pillars: People, Planet, and Prosperity.

Sabre’s Travel Positive strategy serves as a comprehensive framework for integrating sustainability into its operations. The company has committed to setting science-based targets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and has submitted a commitment letter to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). This commitment is part of a broader goal to halve its emissions by 2030 and achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.

Three Pillars of Focus:

   – People: This pillar emphasizes fostering an inclusive workplace, enhancing employee well-being, and engaging with local communities through volunteerism. Sabre aims to create an environment where all employees feel valued and empowered.

   – Planet: Under this pillar, Sabre is dedicated to minimizing its environmental impact through innovative technologies and sustainable practices. The company has begun disclosing its scope 3 emissions for the first time, providing transparency regarding its carbon footprint.

   – Prosperity: This aspect focuses on ensuring long-term economic viability while promoting responsible travel practices. By collaborating with industry leaders and investing in sustainable technologies, Sabre aims to drive positive change across the travel ecosystem.

Sabre has become the first company to utilize Google and Travalyst’s Travel Impact Model to analyze its business travel data. This model provides insights into the environmental impact of its operations, enabling targeted actions to reduce emissions effectively.

CEO Kurt Ekert emphasized that Sabre has made meaningful strides in its sustainability journey throughout 2023 and into 2024. The company plans to continue enhancing its sustainability agenda by embedding these principles into its corporate culture and operations.
