After a six-month run, Expo 2020 concluded with a grand closing ceremony in Dubai. The event was held in the breathtaking Al Wasl Plaza, providing a proud moment for the UAE as well as a dazzling visual feast for people from all around the world.
The showcase was created to be a celebration of what the event has accomplished – and of everyone who helped make it happen. The closing ceremony, headed by creative visionary Franco Dragone, aims to represent how Expo 2020 Dubai has influenced the lives of people who have come while amplifying the multiplicity of memories formed on site.
After 182 days of celebrations, the curtain came down in front of tens of thousands of people – and millions more throughout the world. A world-class production, cutting-edge technology, immersive laser projections, and no fewer than three firework displays, all contributed to the extravaganza.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, said in a recorded voiceover: “Today is not the end of Expo 2020 but a new beginning.”
Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence and Commissioner-General of Expo 2020 Dubai echoed that by saying: “Endings are new beginnings; this is how we envision paths for many achievements to come.”
